YouTube and Podcasting and Downloading

I have not spent any time on YouTube before other than to watch a video taken in South Africa which was featured on ABC news when a cape buffalo calf escaped a pride of lions. My choice today was very different - Women in Darfur . YouTube is another potential time hog like flickr - I am sure one could disappear for days. I went with a political story that I wish was better covered in our media, and I see YouTube as a means of getting the word out relatively cheaply for the International Rescue Committee and Enough and other NGOs. (There were however some comments that I did not appreciate)

Podcast - I looked at Podcast Alley and appreciated the fact that I can search by genre Podcast Alley Genres . Listened for a while to London Walks for your mp3 player and some stories from the Indie Travellers guide. What I liked was that I could listen to an episode, and download what I wanted to, if I wanted to, rather than have apple pies coming at me week after week as the Ninja guy threatened. I could see getting a podcast regularly of something I was really interested in, but since I am not much of a listener, other than in the car, podcasts don't have great appeal.

Project Gutenberg - I knew of this project as out of copyright material available for download but I was not aware of the possibility of downloading audio. I listened to Ten Days in a Madhouse by Nellie Bly. Good to know that downloadable sites exist, and it is something I might do if I no longer have the convenience of collecting a box of CDs on my way out of work.
