This was a worthwhile exercise. I learned more about electronic communication than I imagined was out there, and I also learned how much of it I want to participate in.
I need now to figure which of all of these communication channels I want to bring to my work in the library system. Which ideas might historians and genealogists embrace? They are certainly supportive of online databases like census data and tax records. Are they ready for RSS feeds and podcasts? I think not, but it is hard to know. Perhaps we could add an RSS feed to Whilbr for "News from Whilbr" or something like that. Whilbr is such a slow moving item - something as cutting edge and immediate seems unnecessary. If the book was written in 1806, do I really need an instant email to tell me it is now online?
The format worked for me - bitesized chunks of things to do, served weekly. And knowing there was an end in sight helped when I got lost on the web. I would definitely be interested in another smorgasbord.
