I had not looked at any other wikis. So I was interested to see what the Travel one would be like. Not much activity yet - and in many ways country listings are comparable to entries in wikipeida. The where to eat and stay sections are much more actively added to on any of the message boards like Thorn Tree Cafe etc.
Wikimedia was interesting. I was particularly impressed by Animated Maps . The CSA states evolution would be a great Civil War teaching tool.
I looked at the Sandbox but declined to create yet another login. Instead I got lost on the Local Food wiki - what fun and so many resources. Thanks, whoever posted it. I was frustrated by the fact that I could not post on that wiki without a login. Wikipedia lets me post without logging in.
So it seems, from the few wikis I've looked at, that wikis, other than wikipedia, do not have as many adherents as I would expect. For example I look at one blog that I think would be far better as a wiki - the use of a comments feature is less conducive to making edits or deletions than a wiki would be. But clicking on the comments field and typing is probably easier for the average user.
